A grandmother living with her children in a deep rural area is 75 years old, and decides after the recent death of her husband to stop eating, so that she can join him and the ancestors. Her family, who are poor subsistence farmers, respect her wishes and do not offer her food. She asks them to give her just water to drink, which they do. She starves herself for a period of nearly a month, and then dies as the result of a heart attack.
