Patient’s contractual duties: Scenario

• A patient suffers from extremely drug resistant TB. He is non-compliant regarding his medication, and poses a threat to his extended family, who all live together in a large house. He refuses to go into quarantine at the local hospital quarantine premises. The family’s doctor is concerned that the patient will infect the whole family so she makes an urgent court application for a court order to compel the patient to go into quarantine, where steps will also be taken to ensure that he takes his medication.
